Hello all,

I just want to let everybody know that I'm running for the position of director for the APA. I'm running against Bob Drdak, so I'd like to think the APA can't lose as far as adding a man who is passionate about polygraph and moving the profession forward is concerned. I emailed Bob (after trying the number listed in the APA's directory), and I think I now have the right address (after a bounce back), but if anybody knows him, could you let him know there's a potential for conversation to ensue here. I think I recall him posting here on occasion.

Anyhow, the ballots go out tomorrow, and candidates had to provide a 500-word position paper to go along with those ballots. I'm not sure if the correct document of mine made it to the printer or not, but I'll post what you should be receiving in the next few days below.

Thanks,

Barry

---------------------------------------------

I am honored to have been nominated for the position of director, and I am asking you to seriously consider giving me your vote. Of course, I don’t expect you to do so blindly, so let me share my vision here. For those who desire more details about my platform or me (including a brief, bulleted bio), visit http://www.polygraphsecrets.com/apa/barrycushman.htm .
Since graduating from polygraph school, I have spent considerable time researching, writing, teaching, and promoting polygraph science both inside and outside the polygraph community. I have a passion for polygraph, and I hope to encourage that passion in others, for our mutual benefits.
I support our “Strategic Plan,” which means we have much work to do. We must move quickly to get all of our schools “reading from the same sheet of music,” teaching validated and defendable techniques, principles and scoring systems, and we must encourage and support training, ensuring all our members are informed and capable of conducting scientifically sound tests. We too often fight amongst ourselves over issues that should be (and in some cases have been) resolved by an analysis of real data. Unnecessary quarreling is harmful to the whole body. The answer, in addition to supporting more research is better education – from basic school to continuing education seminars to our publications. It is only through research that we can come to an understanding of not only what works, but what works best in any given situation. With solid and agreed upon data, we will be better able to silence our critics and forge ahead in our quest for finding the truth where no one else can.
We must continue to commission our content experts to teach, draft and revise “best practices” (in all areas) for the benefits of our membership and those we serve.
We are the largest polygraph organization in the world; yet, one would never know it by looking at our website. Although it has improved in recent months, it is still far from where it needs to be. The site should be “one-stop shopping” for examiners and consumers alike – from relevant information to training.
We must continue to build relationships with our foreign members. There is little sense in expending energy reinventing the proverbial wheel, and there are researchers around the world who have made significant contributions to the field of polygraph and the detection of deception; however, we seem to miss more of it than we should. If elected, I would encourage and support our International Membership Liaison Committee in identifying ways to better promote the free exchange of information among our membership worldwide.
If elected, I commit to give my all, and I will represent and try to better bring together all of our membership for what affects one tends to affect all. I will also need your continued support, and input because none of us has all the answers. Regardless of the outcome, I will continue to serve APA members wholeheartedly. Thank you for your consideration.

Nice announcement Barry. You will be successful, I am sure.
I am interested in your background and of course it is fitting to include here a picture of yourself for mere physical recognition purposes and for election posterity.

Easy with the Photoshop, unless you want to remove the facial hair, and just to keep it honest, a little off the top.

Thanks for the kinds words, stat, but I don't know who will win. Bob is a modern day polygraph icon of sorts, and though I've only met him once (casually), he's a person many - I included - look up to. You'll remember him from, among other things, the Duke lacrosse team fiasco. He's the one who brought polygraph in the spotlight with his NDI conclusions. Some of us who follow the Google news links were out there defending him and polygraph at individual news websites where comments are allowed. (George does the same, and we can't let him go unchallenged everywhere.)

I think his tests and the ultimate conclusions in that case show the value of polygraph, and the world saw it because of Bob's good work.

Why do I say all that? I never saw Bob's tests or charts, and I never talked to him about them, but I don't need to do so to feel comfortable when posting my comments on those sites. Bob and I have many good mutual friends in polygraph. Based on what I know of Bob from those trusted friends, I am confident he is a very competent examiner, a man of great integrity, and man with a heart for polygraph, and a lot of people know those same things better than I.

In no way do I want to discount what I think I would bring to the table, but I'll feel good no matter what the membership decides.

I too am honored to have been nominated to participate as a candidate in this year’s election and am seeking the position of Vice President Law Enforcement.

Please take the time to visit my website for the complete version of my campaign message (a pared down version will accompany your ballots due to length restrictions).

I ask for your consideration and support through vote in this important process of our professional organization.

Good luck J.B.!
Wow, I suppose I had no idea where you were at. Flint eh?
For those of you who don't know, Flint Michigan is a town which (128-130k folk) has been economically devastated by GM plant closings and other woes. The town (it really is a small town) like Gary Indiana, holds the distinction of being small, but having an extremely high crime rate---50-75 murders per year (that's the same rate of Indy, which has almost a million people), 100's of rapes. An examiner in Flint aint exactly sitting around waiting for fish, the pond is loaded. JB has seen some things.

JB, we must have met at Midwest Regional poly seminars at some point. Good luck!

Best of luck to both Barry and J.B.

Two great candidates.

Now about those campaign pics. I couldn't find any. How are we gonna feel like we know you, if we can't see what you look like.

We're waiting for pics. I for one will respect your pictures. But I am afraid the lack of pictures will not go unpunished.

And here's a photo of Jamie from a party we attended after last year's APA seminar:

I can't show you the photos taken a couple hours later.

A picture truly is worth a thousand words.

In this one, I'm sitting next to Toby:

That's the best I can do right now.

I promised to respect the pics, but I was suprised to see that through the download and then upload processes, Lincoln's beard and Superman curl would cut and paste itself onto JB.

Most times, we men grow beards to hide something. Lincoln (our first bearded President) admitted to growing his to cover up his long thin goose neck.

This "lesson in fashion" brought to you by Botox, and by the American Classic "The Wizard of Oz."
